The pheasant appears to be cautiously stepping among the dry autumnal grasses of an open field, displaying real, palpable trepidation at the specter of a predator or hunters seeking his whereabouts. His tail's propped up skyward, signaling he's been alerted and cautiously scans his surroundings.
